WHAT IS IN MY NEWBORN BAG OF TRICKS?

One great thing about Lifestyle Newborn Sessions is that I don't need to bring many props to carry out a beautiful session. However, I always bring several things with me to be sure my families are set up for the best stress free session ever. Let's get into them!

GEAR RELATED ITEMS

  • Camera- I shoot with a Canon R6 and typically my Canon 35mm 1.4 lens
  • Backup Camera- I use a Canon 6d Mark ii as my backup camera.
  • Canon 50mm 1.4 Lens- I don't always use this lens for in home sessions, especially in tighter spaces, but sometimes it is exactly what I need during a session.
  • White Noise- This is a must!!! I will usually use a White Noise app on my phone since it can get pretty loud and is easy for me to move from room to room.
  • Step Stool- in some homes, I never need to pull this out, but I will usually bring it along with me in case I need to get a little higher for various shots.
  • Memory Cards- You can never go wrong having a few with you for each session in case something goes wrong!
  • Back up charged batteries- Let's just say you don't want to leave a session because your battery died and you don't have any backups!

BABY RELATED ITEMS

  • Newborn Swaddles & Wraps- I always bring a few swaddles to coordinate with your styling choices and wraps to wrap baby in various ways and layer to keep them cute and warm.
  • Textured Knit Baby Blankets- I bring a variety of textured blankets for warmth, texture, and layering.
  • A Basket for Solo Baby Shots- I always bring this to place baby into it gently for some detail and solo baby shots.
  • Knit bloomers and outfits- I don't always use this, but many parents choose to use these to add texture and babies always look adorable in little knit textured outfits.
  • Baby Girl Boho Headbands and Tiebacks- These are so adorable and always look so cute in photos.
  • Client Closet Dresses for Mamas- I always offer my client closet for every session, but I find it has been very helpful for mamas postpartum. Everyone who has a baby is between sizes and nothing fits like they want it to, so I have several options for them to wear so they can be comfortable and look and feel great for their session. Mamas will usually choose 2-5 dresses that I bring along with me for them to try once I arrive. In the case of family sessions, many moms will do a fitting and choose a dress ahead of time, but I find it is easier for mamas to choose a dress the day of the session after a quick try on to see what they feel the best in.

If you are in the Charlottesville or Central Virginia area and looking for a Newborn Photographer or Family Photographer, I would love to connect with you! Capturing those early days after your baby is born is such a special time, and an honor that I truly embrace when you choose me to be your photographer. Those days after birth can be a blur, but those moments can be captured so you can treasure them forever!
